Papers from the Past

I am really good about keeping certain keepsakes. Photo albums are filled and kept in chronological order. I have every calendar since Mike and I got married. We all have our strengths in different areas, and that is what makes us special and unique.

After I grew up my parents gave me a manila envelope filled with scraps of paper, that my dad had kept for me. It was notes I had written him as I was a kid. Simple, everyday random notes, such as me telling him I was going out to play, or Birthday notes, or papers from when we played school. (I was the teacher...he was my student! I was usually pretty hard on him, quite strict and gave him bad grades. He enjoyed this thoroughly I think!) I don't know if he ever could have guessed how profound this would be to me. We had very rocky teenage years, and by the time I had matured and settled down, he was very sick, and he died by the time I was 22.

I went through the big envelope last night, and have pulled out some of my favorites. My family who reads this will probably enjoy this as much as I did.......Thanks Dad!
My dad dressed up one year as The MS (multiple sclerosis) Mystery Sleuth Dog. I thought I was big stuff when he came to my school because that was MY dad in the costume.
My mom was well known for being on the phone a long time with her friend Bridget. I am sure we drove her nuts!

Apparently I played with barbies wwaayy too long. Believe me I know. When I was 12 my grandma's friend made a snicker of a comment that I was too old to be playing with Barbies, and I never did again. But oh how I did love to cut their hair!

My mom would bring my dad his paper each morning and he woke up to this note attached to it when at 18 I had my 1st baby.

This last note is quite funny, because this was the stage that I had that horrible type of retainer that bridged across the roof of my mouth, and there was a key!*!*!*! that had to be turned each night.
My parents actually had to tie it to a string, and then to a rubber band that they would wear on their wrist, so that if they dropped it, it wouldn't fall down my throat. I know...good times!
I must of really been loving him that night to write that he could turn my key! LOL!
I am working with my new scanner, and this was the perfect project for it! Thanks for taking a trip with me down memory lane!

Busy Week Ahead~

Mike is going out of town for his annual pizza convention on Sunday. With us just buying our new store last Monday, life could not be busier! The kids and I have some fun stuff planned for while he is gone. They love having turns staying up late with me and sleeping in my bed.
Everything is falling into line with all of our new transitions.
Now if we JUST could keep some clothes on Summer, we would be doing great:)

Packages to Diana

It has taken me forever, to take the time to get this together, but I finally have. Our little girl that we sponser in Mexico is turning 2 the day after Summer, and I want to be sure that she can get her 1st package from the U.S. in time.
We were very limited as to what we were allowed to send, and I hope it all goes through to her. Getting to visit Mexico, made me teeth at the bit to be so close, yet not get to see her! At dinner time the children include her in our family prayer, and I pray that she is safe, and warm.

I picked out this little doll, one because it can fit in the package size I am allowed to send, but also because they said that she loved baby dolls. It will be perfect for her to hold onto...

We sent some sweets, for her and her brothers, although I was very careful as to what to pick since she is so young. I just kept basing my choices on Summer.

This is Summer's favorite peek-a-boo book. So I got Diana a matching one.

And I thought this was perfect because it has both english and spanish in the cardboard pages.

Last we sent a family picture, and Tatum wrote a simple card in spanish. We hope she is excited to get some mail! I hope her family will communicate with us and let us know how they are doing!

Tidbits and Morsels

***We were going over to my mom's house for a get together, and yes the weather had not been frigid cold, we had been blessed with a few days of 60's and even touched 70, but none the less it is March...in Ohio...and at night it is still in like the 30's. (Take today for example...ugh!! The high today is 36! We are freezing again! That is just spring, ya know!) So we are getting ready to go and yelled to the kids to get in the car. Matthew say "Okay! let me just get my suit!!! We are going to go swimming at Grandma's right??"

{{crickets chirping}}

"MATTHEW~! Grandma hasn't even cleaned out her pool yet, nor is it even CLOSE to being warm enough to swim in it!"(he was totally freakin serious by the way! He was up in his drawer digging around for a suit.)

***While at a community event, where alot of the town was at, I saw a woman from our subdivision. I do not know her very well, but we have talked a handful of times, and always been very friendly and waved and said hello. One of those times was on a hot summer night when it was garbage night, and I was out on my walk. I noticed that they were throwing out their crib, and her and I got into the discussion of having more children, whether or not they were going to, clearing out the baby stuff for good, how to know when you are done...

I am known for loving babies, and wanting babies and loving houseful of babies, and I think I got really over zealous that night on a kick about the beauty of having children, and how we only live once, and how precious life is..blah blah blah. Long story short. We had another baby. And um...so did they! (she told me afterward that that conversation, had something to do with it! {{wink wink}}

So there we are at this event, and I whisper over to Mike..."see that lady....I inspired her to have that baby!!"

It had been a trying evening of our Summer running wild, and the other's on our last nerve, and he whispered back to me "well then, one day, she's gonna show up and kick your ass!"

***I made Tuna Helper for dinner the other night, which all the the kids eat great except for Matthew. He always complains that he is allergic to tuna (which he is NOT~!) and it's just tough, because up until about 2 years ago, he loved tuna, and I'm not havin it!

So, I called the kids for dinner, and he comes flying in the door and say "WOW! It smells GREAT! TACO"S!!!! YAY!!! Aaaa... Matty. It is not Tacos. There is no tacos. It doesn't smell like taco's. We are having something totally different!

Okay. So we sit down to the table, and he eats every bite! Gobbles it up! Afterwards, he evens says...."that was sooo good Mom" ( which is rare for my kids to say!) I said, "Matthew, that was Tuna Helper." He said "That was Tuna?????????" He didn't even know it?!?!?!

I swear, those boys. I don't even know what goes on in their heads. How can you eat an entire plate of something, and not even know what type of meat it is?

***Jake started Flag Football which he LOVES. Real football he is crazy about and plays it in the fall, but they kick. your. butt. Like everyday, hard, and beat the fun out of you. And then you sit on the sideline for most of the actual games. So in the spring, when he gets to play flag football, he does it for the shear fact of having FUN. He runs, and dodges. He makes touchdowns like a madman. He is a gazelle out there. Last night was his first practice. He was so in his element. He had a blast.

***I wasn't kidding when I told you Summer is going through this faze of stripping. I wasn't just trying to do a funny post. It actually has become quite NOT funny. I am considering going to buy her overalls and putting them on her backwards just so she cannot take off her clothes!
The other day, Mike and I were working in the office and she came down the staircase naked from the waist down again. He jokingly said, you better get her before she poops! Well, as I approached her I noticed her gripping the banister a little tight, and grimacing......OH NO ohnoohnoohno! I scooped her up and lifted her night shirt and sure enough, there was a brown log making an appearance! "MIKE!!! get me something!"

Do you know what that man said?

"Where's the camera?? I can't find it."

(me) "WWhhatt!!! the camera!?!?!? I need diaper wipes!!!! Help me! I need some wipes over here!!!"

Men!

***Tatum has been at a loss as to what to do with her life. Go into art? She studied gymnastics for years, and thought she would maybe get into some type of physical education. Coaching or physical therapy?
She has all A's and B's and is planning on going to college, and she and her counselor had a meeting at school, and they talked. They came up with maybe a good goal for her. We are all excited! Teaching. Now that they say it it makes sense. She is extremely organized, and orderly. She loves kids, and does well academically. AAaannd it is majorly in her blood. Her Uncle Tim is a teacher. Her Aunt Renie is a teacher. My father was not only a teacher, but a principal of an elementary school. We are so excited that she now has a path she is trying to follow! Yes, it may change 10 more times (and that's okay!) but she now has a goal in mind, and it is inspiring and exciting

Meeting a fellow blogger!!!!

Today, Summer and I ventured out on our own, to meet for the first time solo, another blogger! Heather from Sugar and Spice it ends up lives in just the next town, and for months we have visited each other's blogs, and then emailed, and now that her cat has had a special delivery (one with Summer's name on it!), it prompted us to get together!
She welcomed us into her beautiful old historical house filled with her 3 little boys Logan (5), Braeden (3), and the new little guy Hudson (0 years old as Logans says).
Her guys are cutie patooties! Summer made herself right at home, and Heather and I hit it off right away, talking easily.

We went up to see the kittens after awhile....
this is the one we picked out for Summer. They are only 1 week old now, so their eyes are not open yet.

They were born in Hudson's closet, so he is a good sport about having so many guests in his room!
These three kept busy playing and even humored me for a posed picture!

I know this shot below is blurry, but it shows it cute little spread out paw...awww!

This one will be ours.
The mama cat was SUCH a good girl. She purred and let me pet her. She even let us pick up her babies, but watched like a hawk, and wanted them back ...please...thankyouverymuch!

This was taken courtesy of Logan. Good Job Logan! Not many 5 year old can do such a good job with a camera! Your mama has trained you well!
Heather, I loved getting the chance to meet you! We will just have to make a point of catching each other at Target!

Jake's new glasses

Jake is my creative soul. My messer. My instigator. My curious troublemaker. He has his Uncle Timmy running through his veins this boy. He could take apart a flashlight at age 4, only to put it back together again. He also can get lost about 5 times on the way to find his shoes. He has ADD and struggles in school with reading, but works hard and keeps a positive attitude.
After going through two pairs of glasses, and losing them many times, the scratched up pitiful pair we owned were held together by a promise. We took him to the eye doctor only to be told that our insurance wouldn't cover anything for another couple months. He needed everything... exam, scratch resistance, new lens and frames. We had to wait. Meanwhile he was having headaches, and miserable.
Well the time has come, and he finally got his new pair. Amazing the pair he picked out is the kind that you pretty much can wad up in a ball, and it pops back into shape! Jake proof!

Today, when I found out they had come in, I went straight to his school, and pulled him out to go get them! He is so happy to be able to see again..poor guy!!

Now let's see how long we can make this pair last!

Finishing up the Weekend!

Sunday night, we finished up the weekend, and wrapped up my birthday festivities with my family at my mom's house. She just got back in town from her get away trip she did with her sister to Texas.
We brought Chinese, and my brother's family joined us for cake, along with my grandma.
When it was time to blow out the candle, I had Summer on my lap and encouraged her help.

We blew................................
and them Summer blew the longest, stringiest, slimiest, spit across the whole cake!!! Good thing we all think she is so cute:)

My grandma is 89 this year, and bless her heart, sat through a dinner with my tribe!
This is my niece, Karma. (my brother and I have a thing about naming our girls...no Sally's or Sue's in this family! LOL!) It isn't the greatest picture because the poor thing was trying to get Summer to cooperate with getting her picture taken.
My mom and grandma.
Jake playing ping pong.
Matty and my nephew Robert playing their version of billiards.

Then we did what we usually migrate to do at almost all family gatherings, and that is look through old photo albums.
Karma just asked Grandma here "Are you guys wearing those clothes on purpose grandma, because they were in style?"
We had a real nice time, but the evening was over so quick, due to the time change, it being a school night, and the hour drive home!
.
.
.
On another birthday note...today is Mike's step mom's Bev's Birthday! Happy Birthday Bev!!! We hope you have a wonderful day, and that you and Ed get to go do out to do something really nice and special:) Love you!
